Update on GC Hope House: Jan 2019

Update on Hope House.

Gratiot County Hope House will NOT be opening on January 6, 2019 as planned.   Unfortunately we do not have enough volunteers to make the shelter operational.  The full opening of the shelter is delayed until we can get enough volunteers signed up to cover the 5 shifts per day.  Beginning January 14, we will be open from 3:00p.m. – 7:00p.m. During this time we will meet with guests and begin to establish a relationship with them. We will also serve a meal before we close.  We will function in this way until we have the volunteers necessary to begin housing people.  Our hope is to begin housing people the last week of January and to be able to continue housing them until April 6 as planned.

For your information I’ve included the shift times below for both our partial opening and our full opening.  It is imperative the people sign up for these shifts.  To sign up visit our website, www.gchopehouse.org/volunteer.

Beginning January 24, 2019

Dinner shift—5:00p.m. – 7:00p.m. (please bring a meal prepared to serve for 20 people)

Beginning January 27, 2019

Afternoon shift 1:00p.m. – 5:30p.m.

Dinner shift 6:30p.m. – 8:00p.m. (please bring a meal prepared to serve for 20-30 people)

Overnight shift 9:00p.m. – 6:00a.m.

Please, pastors, consider having your church host the shelter for one week.  We cannot do this without support for the local churches.  If you are interested in this please give me or Nathan a call.

Lastly, some of you may have heard that we planned to host an open house tomorrow.  That is being postponed one week and will be held on January 12, 2019 from 10am-2pm.  I’ve attached a flyer for this event.  Please share this within your workplaces and networks.

If you have any questions please call me or Nathan

Thank you for your continued support!

Pastor Jake Gregory

Poverty Simulation: Jan 22

Poverty Simulation: On January 22 from 6-9pm

GCHH is hosting a Poverty Simulation which will be held at the Nazarene Church.  This event is free of charge but registration is required.  To register simply email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.  or call 989-948-0404.  I would highly recommend this to all of us. This simulation will afford us the opportunity to assume the identity of someone living in poverty and try to survive one month in their shoes.

From Pastor Jake Gregory . . .
This is will be transformative for those who participate.  I had the privilege of participating in on while I was in college and it was transformative for me.  It would not be doing the work I am now if it were not for that experience.  I would encourage each of you to consider attending.

Space is limited to please let me know ASAP if you’re interested.
